Introducing myself and my journal: One Hundred Veils

About Me:
I grew up in a home with two rebel parents - both of which had their fair share of religious addiction and spiritual abuse growing up. I was the natural consequence of their union - a natural consequence that grew up in a secular home, found "god" in my 20's and then found myself 20 yrs later. Since then, more than a hundred veils have fallen and I am learning to take steps without my feet for once - something I never thought possible not to mention would have not even understood back it the day when my inspiration came from Playboy and Cosmo.

The hyper-sexualized lessons I had learned from my N. American West Coast upbringing did not teach me how to fend off 4 men who raped me shortly after moving to Hollywood at the tender age of 21. They also did not equip me with how to love myself enough to say "no" to a breast augmentation at age 22. I felt less than. Discounted. Shoddy and cheap. Ten years ago I had the implants removed marking my upward sojourn toward wholeness. It's true what Rumi says about our wounds are the doorway to Light and to this day I have the scars to prove it. I know now every time I look at my naked body in the mirror, I am more than my vagina and clitoris. I am more than my breasts. I am more than my skin and my hair and my eyes. I am and so are you.

Eighteen years ago I gave birth to my first little Wild Maiden and then another 6 yrs later. Having these two beautiful young ladies in my life has opened me up to what is possible for all of us. Unlike me, my girls are growing up understanding their worth, encouraged to take the world by storm, questioning the stories that came before them and then writing their own no matter what. That is healthy rebellion - not fighting for what you are against but setting your hand to all that you are FOR.
