Introducing myself and my journal: Preventing girls entering the commercial sex industry in Cambodia

About Me:
Hi, my name is Karen and I am a member of a not for profit organisation called Free To Shine. Founded in Australia by Chief Executive Officer Nicky Mih our work is in preventing sex trafficking in rural and remote areas of Cambodia. We believe in empowering girls with an education to reach their full potential believing girls should be in schools, not brothels. We identify girls at high risk of being targeted by traffickers, get her a uniform and a bike, fill a bag with books and pens, and visit her regularly to keep her in school and safe. We have a dedicated team who believe the quote by Edmund Burke, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” As the African proverb says: "If you educate a boy, you educate an individual. If you educate a girl, you educate a community.” As a new member to Worldpulse and on behalf of Free To Shine we look forward to working together in a shared vision of empowering women to bring about lasting change.
