About Me:
I am a writer and the founder and editor of WomanSpeak, A Journal of Writing and Art by Caribbean Women, an annual literary journal out of The Bahamas dedicated to publishing the best new creative work by contemporary women writers and painters of the Caribbean. My poems have appeared in The Caribbean Writer, Poui, Small Axe and other journals. I was awarded the second prize in the 2012 Small Axe Literary Competition. I created WomanSpeak in the early 1990s with friends and revived it in 2012 with newfound inspiration and with the help of the internet and the new technology of print on demand publishing, and since then have compiled and published four, full colour print editions of the anthology. The newly released 2014 issue includes the work of 30 Caribbean women writers and painters from 15 different countries, including established authors, prizewinners and new voices.
My Passions:
making books that amplify the creative voices of Caribbean women and bringing their work to a wider audience
My Challenges:
the books are costly to print and printed books are costly to buy and costly to distribute.
My Vision for the Future:
to produce books in ebook format so that they can be quickly and easily distributed to readers and writers, especially those in the Caribbean. I hope to create a website for the journal where writers and readers can easily access and submit to the books.
