Invest in you

Encouragement

Something I have learned in life is the importance of investing in ourselves. Often, people think that investing in oneself is selfish, but it isn't.
To be a good leader or guide other people, you must first know what being a leader means to you. What type of leadership would you like to have if you were being led? How would you like to be guided, and what would you not like? This understanding allows you to avoid doing to others what you wouldn't want done to you and to lead others as you would like to be led.
Sometimes we feel that investing in ourselves is difficult because responsibilities increase as we grow and we don't have time for that. But remember, your first responsibility is yourself.
Before you go out to save the world, you need to strengthen yourself. Before you love another person, you need to love yourself. If you don't love yourself, how can you understand or explain what love is? How can you show love to others if you can't show it to yourself? And how can you identify and appreciate acts of love from others if you don't know what love means to you
You can't do goods things for others if you don't take care of yourself in the first place. For me, this means a lot, especially as a woman and especially as an African black woman.
From our childhood, we learned to put others above ourselves, above our desires and needs. We were taught from a young age to sacrifice ourselves to favor others, that taking care of ourselves doesn't matter, but that we had to take care of others.
You can't truly love others if you do not know how to love and respect yourself.
Finally, I would like to say that investing in yourself also means investing in others. If you take time to know how to love yourself in you will have the real chance to love others in the perfect way.
