Recorded annual youth suicide rates in India are 80 per 100,000 in females and 34 per 100,000 in males (compared to 10.4 per 100,000 in the general Indian population).

About 158.8 million of the population are children below the age of 6. Of these children, 30 million are orphans which makes up a significant portion of the youth population. Among the 30 million children, only 370,000 of them are in childcare institutions.

There are 728 old-age homes in India today. Detailed information on 547 homes is available. Out of 28 states in India, Kerala has 124 old age homes, which is the maximum.
