Journalists Against Disinformation” – Empowering Sudanese Journalists in the Diaspora to Combat Fake News Using Artificial Intelligence
Background:
When the war in Sudan erupted in April 2023, an overwhelming flood of false information and rumors spread across media platforms. This wave of disinformation deepened social divisions and worsened the suffering of civilians.
Journalists and activists in the diaspora faced a huge challenge in verifying facts and countering organized disinformation campaigns.
This initiative was born from that reality — to equip Sudanese journalists in exile with artificial intelligence tools and critical thinking skills, enabling them to build a professional and responsible media ecosystem that protects truth.
Objectives:
Build the capacity of Sudanese journalists in the diaspora to use AI tools in fact-checking and analysis.
Strengthen their ability to detect and combat disinformation and hate speech.
Create collaborative networks among journalists to promote solidarity and professional standards.
Raise public awareness about the dangers of misinformation during conflicts.
Empower Sudanese journalists affected by war to build an alternative, independent media landscape.
Planned Activities:
Organizing in-person and virtual training workshops.
Developing a practical AI Fact-Checking Guide.
Creating a digital monitoring network to track and verify fake news.
Launching online awareness campaigns.
Partnering with international platforms and institutions to enhance impact.
Vision:
To build a free, independent, and responsible Sudanese media in the diaspora capable of countering disinformation and amplifying the voice of truth to support peace and justice in Sudan.
Mission:
To empower Sudanese journalists in the diaspora with modern digital tools — particularly artificial intelligence — to strengthen their skills in fact-checking and combating fake news, while fostering independent media networks that support informed, peaceful communities.
