June is Mens Mental Health Month

So June is Mental Health Awareness Month in Trinidad and Tobago, as I sit here watching the rain drops stream down my window pane  a wet, cold Monday, the frist of a two bout of inclement weather, I ponder on just how much that means to us as women.

Yes to some it would bring an immediate response in that of a long steups as we trini would say or a scowl on the face or an  immediate canter of words and scenario, s that will back up our case as to why these robust creatures of strength, and supposed masters of our hearts, and more common than not our demise isn't worthy of our empathy.

Is it correct to say our Men have failed us, or is the chicKen and egg scenario, which comes frist the  chicken or the egg, have we failed our men.

Parents and mostly we as women, help to nurture and instill certain values in our children, we feed them, clothe them, educate them, but do we pay attention to their mental and emotional health?

Is it that the deficit lies in the fact that there are two many female headed households and our boys are missing out on that male perspective?

Societies mindset is symbolises men as the authority figure, the leaders, we heap expectations on them, as they shoulder the responsibility of being father, provider, spiritual leader and nurterer.

Yet so many mens efforts go under appreciated, and the value of his emotional and mental wellness are never enquired upon

Even when a man is a perpetrator of violence against his spouse, we seldom stop to investigate the root causes, such men are never co ehersed into seeking counselling, if they eventually end their lives by suicide ilafter a heanious act of violence against his spouse has been committed, we feel a sense of justice has been served, because we feel for the victim.

But this man was once a loving, respected member of society who deserved to be treated fir an illness he couldn't control
