Just wanted to say hi

My name is Genice and I have a 5 year daughter who I adopted as a single mom from Kazakhstan in January 2005. Ironically, I met my husband 9 months later and he is about to legally adopt our daughter as well.

Becoming a mother has been the greatest joy of my life. It has nothing to do with genetic connections, the act of mothering is so rewarding. I had always been drawn to adopting an orphan. But, once I became a mother, I mostly forget that she was once an orphan. She is just my daughter and the precious center of my universe. It is sobering for me when I occasionally consider what her life would have been like had she remained in the orphanage or with her impoverished family of origin.

It is such a tragic that so many government stand in the way of international adoptions and prevent wonderful, healthy children from finding loving families.

I look forward to hearing from others in this group.
