As Kenya prepares for the <a href="http://www.greenbeltmovement.org/a.php?id=536" rel="nofollow"> funeral service of the first African woman Nobel Peace laureate, Wangari Maathai</a>, tomorrow Saturday 8 October 2011, what a joy it was to hear the news that the <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-15211861" rel="nofollow">Nobel Peace Prize for 2011 has been awarded to three women activists</a>, Liberia's President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberian peace activist Leymah Gbowee, and Yemeni journalist and peace activist Tawakul Karman. In a sense, this award also serves as a fitting tribute to the life work of Prof Wangari Maathai who was a peace champion in her own right. Kudos, ladies! May your noble work further inspire the continuing struggle for the protection of women's rights.
