Lake Kivu gives life to thousands of families

Lake Kivu gives life to thousands of families

Lake Kivu gives life to thousands of families — it provides fish, clean water, and energy through the Ruzizi hydropower plant. But today, plastic pollution is destroying this precious ecosystem. Plastic waste kills fish like Sambaza, pollutes the water, and blocks energy flow to Ruzizi.

To respond, Action Pour le Développement des Jeunes au Congo (ADJC) launched the Clean Lake Kivu Initiative, a youth-led community project committed to protecting the lake and raising environmental awareness.

Every weekend and at the end of each month, young volunteers join hands to clean the shores, collect plastic waste, and teach communities about recycling and climate action. 💪

This initiative shows the strength of youth leadership and community solidarity in building a greener future. 🌱

We call on international partners, donors, and institutions to support this movement — together we can restore Lake Kivu, protect aquatic life, and secure clean energy for generations to come. 💚
