Let me tell you what I have learned from working behind the scenes.

A while ago at an event, a young lady leaned over and whispered,

"I really want to make a difference, but I’m not a founder or anything… I just volunteer sometimes."

I smiled. Because I understood that feeling too well.

A few years ago, I was just a young lady showing up where help was needed.

No big title. No registered organization. No spotlight.

Just heart and willingness.

Sometimes I managed social media pages for nonprofits and founders.

Other times I helped at the registration desk, arranged chairs, handled logistics, or listened to people share their stories.

I have followed up with beneficiaries after outreaches, created content calendars to amplify advocacy for girls’ health, education, and menstrual hygiene and I have stood behind the camera capturing moments that will tell stories.

No applause. No stage. But still… work that mattered.

And I’ll be honest, there was a time I doubted myself.

It felt like everyone else was launching something, leading something, or going viral for something.

And I started to ask myself, “Am I really doing enough?”

But here’s what I’ve come to learn:

You don’t need to be the face of the project to be part of the impact.

You don’t have to be a founder to be relevant.

You don’t need a logo or title to create change.

This isn’t to say you shouldn’t aim to create or lead someday, please do, but don't wait till you arrive before you actually begin to make impact.

Impact doesn’t begin with a title. It begins with intention.

Some of the most transformational work is being done by people behind the scenes, showing up consistently, giving their best, and making things happen.

So if you’re volunteering, interning, assisting, managing content, or handling certain tasks, please know this:

You’re building a career that counts.

You’re making impact.

And your work is valid.

Not everyone has to lead from the front.

Every great team needs the person who gets things done excellently, and purposefully.

So start where you are.

Support someone else’s vision.

Learn. Grow. Serve.

And don’t wait to feel “official” before you believe you’re already doing meaningful work.

Because you are.
