Let’s Talk About Periods, Plastics, and Planetary Health.

At HealCycle, we’re reimagining wellness by connecting the dots between menstrual health, mental well-being, and environmental sustainability. Through community-led initiatives, awareness-building campaigns, and accessible tools, we aim to empower individuals to make more conscious and informed choices for themselves and for the planet.

Our latest initiative—the Global Sustainable Period Product Survey is rooted in one urgent truth: our period products are harming the planet.

A single pad can take 500 to 800 years to decompose. These products, often made with synthetic materials and plastic-heavy packaging, contribute significantly to global waste.

But the problem goes beyond just what we can see. Many mainstream period products including pads, liners, and tampons contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) such as phthalates, parabens, and PFAS. Linked to hormone imbalance, fertility issues, endometriosis, and certain cancers, these harmful substances also don’t break down easily and often end up leaching into the soil and water systems, posing long-term risks to ecosystems.

Whether it’s a tampon or a pad, these products are typically wrapped in plastic, contain chemical residues, and are discarded in ways that directly impact landfills, waterways, and marine life.

To support this effort, we’re gathering responses through a short Google Form. The answers will help us create an open-sourced database—a free and accessible resource for anyone looking to make more informed, conscious decisions about period care.

If you use period products of any kind, we’d love for you to take just a few minutes to fill out the form:
