LIGHTING A PATH: A PROGRESSIVE REPORT
Opening Update:
It has been a month since I began this journey with the young boys and girls around my campus, and I am thrilled to share the progress we’ve made together. What started as simple conversations and shared moments has now blossomed into a growing community of change, hope, and transformation.
The Shift in Behavior:
The changes are subtle but powerful. Some of the boys who used to sneak off to smoke cigarettes now spend their afternoons asking me questions about the stories we’ve read together. They’ve begun showing up eagerly for our weekend sessions, where we explore not just books and Bible verses but also engaging videos that ignite their curiosity.
One of the boys, who I’ll call Brian, was hesitant to join at first. A few weeks ago, he would hang around the edges of our group, unsure if he wanted to be part of what we were doing. Now, Brian is one of the most active participants, often the first to share his thoughts during story discussions. He recently shared that he hasn’t smoked in two weeks—a small but significant victory.
Creating Positive Habits:
The girls, too, have shown incredible growth. Many of them have started sharing their own stories during our sessions, finding strength and confidence in their voices. On weekends, instead of wandering aimlessly or engaging in harmful behaviors, they join in our activities, from simple games to thought-provoking discussions.
The group has also embraced the idea of taking ownership of their time. A few of the boys approached me with the idea of organizing a mini sports tournament, which we’re now planning for next month. It’s amazing to see them taking the lead, finding healthier ways to spend their energy.
Lessons Learned This Month:
I’ve learned that change takes time, but every step forward matters. Trust is built slowly, one conversation, one laugh, one shared moment at a time. I’ve also realized how much these boys and girls crave guidance, not in the form of rules but through genuine care and support.
Looking Ahead:
This coming month, I plan to introduce more structured activities. We’ll start a small book club where they can pick a story they want to explore together, and I’ll continue using my phone as a tool for learning and inspiration. We’re also planning a “vision board” activity, where each of them will outline their dreams and aspirations—big or small.
Gratitude and Support:
To my World Pulse family, thank you for your encouragement and advice. Your words have fueled this mission and reminded me that I’m not alone in this journey. I would love to hear your thoughts on how I can further engage these young minds and keep them motivated.
This is just the beginning, but already, the changes I’m witnessing remind me why I started. Together, we can light the way for these young boys and girls, one step at a time.
