LindaFarmer Initiative

At Safina Development Organization (https://safinaempowerment.org/ ), we’re always looking for practical ways to support smallholder farmers and address the pressing issue of food insecurity in Kenya. One of the new projects we’re working on is called LindaFarmer, an extension of our ongoing efforts to help farmers, especially women, improve their livelihoods by tackling everyday challenges on the farm.

LindaFarmer is currently under development by our climate action and tech team led by Johnstone or team member, and its goal is simple: to make crop diagnostics easier and more accessible for farmers. Many smallholder farmers struggle to identify plant diseases early enough, which affects their crop yield and income. By using AI technology, LindaFarmer will allow farmers to take a quick picture of their crops and get guidance on possible diseases and treatment options.

In addition to helping with crop diagnostics, we also want to equip farmers with basic knowledge that will help them improve their farming practices and make more informed decisions. This platform, while still modest, aims to be a practical tool that directly supports the farmers who need it most.

Our approach is straightforward – we’re building this project based on the feedback and needs we’ve heard from the communities we work with. It’s one of the ways we hope to make a real difference in their daily lives by addressing food insecurity at the ground level.

Although the platform is still in its early stages, any support would help us move forward in making it accessible to more farmers.
