Lost in Space - Oh G!!!

I am a G bra size and today I am quite a disappointed girl. A few hours ago, my lifelong dream of seeing an all woman walk in space was abandoned - breasts are the culprits! Lost opportunity to be in space due to the power of the anatomy to be daringly different. 

My own healthy pair felt lost, confused, crushed- but only for a short moment.

Symbolically the only reason the journey was abandoned was because the space suits could not accommodate upper torso requirements - in other words - their breasts could not fit!!!

Whose fault is this anyway? Women get the rough side of the emery boards every time. And so, begs the question, what would be the challenge with the men’s suits? Perhaps all testicles have already been pre measured and ready to fit - after all, its all about small, medium and large! 

You see, my breasts and the breasts of the women who were planing this historical walk - would never qualify. That’s actually what makes us truly unique. How else would NASA prepare for women going to space? No, we cannot be given generic suits to wear on this very special occasion. We needed BBC - Bespoke Boobie Compartments that would help us to be comfortable and enjoy the ride! 

My breast size should not be the sole reason for abandoing such an important event in history or rather HERstory!!! That’s what stimulated the creation of our Social Enterprise - Ms. Brafit in 2002.

After all; as a seasoned Bra Fitting Consultant, with over 18 years of experience of fitting diverse body types, and all size ranges, it is almost second nature to be clear on what is required for any special occasion. 

If full busted bride had dreams of wearing a strapless bridal gown - of course we’d have to provide her with the most apporotate of items!

What if the busty athlete wanted control to engage in track and field but had limited support?

What if women with smaller busts, wanted a little natural volume?

What about the many women left with scars from a mastectomy who wanted to feel sexy and feminine whether it be casually or formally? 

What about the women who had the many challenges with their breasts and we were able to declare them #CCR - Carnival Costume Ready.

A space suit bra fitting would have been no big challenge for Ms. Brafit and would have put these women in good stead for a ride like none before - to the next frontier! Why didn’t NASA think of calling us to their rescue and to save these women from such a significant disappointment, of discriminatory proportions?

But in hindsight, it seems breasts always get in the way - even the smallest pair! Even on a mission to another galaxy! 

How was NASA preparing for this expedition and not paying attention to the anatomy and the physical construct of the woman’s body? What was the issue with their scientific knowledge? 

Were they really preparing to be part of the changing landscapes of gender equity, gender sensitivity, and incorporation of simple gendercentric applications to industrial design, inclusion and diversity. 

In our global Breast Empowerment Education and Bra Fitting events, we often hear sad stories of women having been disappointed because they lost an opportunity - due to the size of their breasts. It has been these very experiences that have given rise to our diverse plethora of educational tools and modules that treat with confidence and comfort - beyond the dictates of pop culture and industrial design blunders.

Having to rise to the occasion to eliminate this very situation, has offered us numerous global speaking engagements and collaborations spanning five continents to date - creating a social impact dialogue for true sustainable development - to the creation of many tools and platforms to help girls, women, families and communities.

Today I am disappointed but not disheartened and my breasts are actually a little perkier because it is an opportunity to amplify the voices of girls and women everywhere; sticking my boobies out for other women to be courageous, to be heard, to be included! 

Because I have understood what it felt like to be challenged because of the size of my breasts and the shape of my body, I challenge NASA to find a way to create the most empowering space suit for women with G cups like me to find a way to get to space.

 Ths action might begin to satisfy a global perception of equality, inclusion and breaking gender stereotypes with career paths.
