MAKING OF RESILIENT PEOPLE AND COMMUNITIES THROUGH PRINT JOURNALISM IN THE DIGITAL AGE

World Pulse Ambassador, Florence Kekong at the Climate Action African Forum, held in Lagos, Nigeria

The RESILIENT TIMES News Magazine is the dependable news collecrive/magazine that brings to the fore, contributions that people and organisations are making to combate Climate Change and project conservation and preservation of the rainforest and the attendant biodiversity loss occassioned by climate crisis, with a view to bringing Changemakers into a cohesive network that offers them opportunities and tools to to work together to find long-term solutions to environmental problems

The Resilient Times is apt and  important because the world is in most need of information and educate in combating Climate Change. Moreso, it is right to use the RESILIENT TIMES as a publication that can reach out to those who may not readily be able to access the Internet due to digital literacy and access funding.

Thus, the RESILIENT TIMES provides accurate information on how individuals are making impact in processing and overcoming hardship and leading those lacking resilience to build themselves to cope with unhealthy mechanisms.

Resilient Times brings to the fore, all the afore-mentioned concerns and mobilizes the general population, through the media to take interest and tap from the strength of Changemakers making it matter in the support of our ecosystems.

In the rainforest communities of Cross River State, Nigeria, women farmers have had their farms destroyed by illegal word loggers. This has brought untold hardship for them and their children, in some cases, they experice broken homes as some of their hisbands are engaged in the illegal wood logging. The women who fall victims most get natered by their husbands who demand that women take permission from them before speaking in the communities. As a result, some of these women are sent away from their matrimonial homes. Most sad is the delema they face when they are forced to return to their parents. Their own brothers chase them back to their husbands saying that "a woman has no home". This distabilises the women and their children. This pushes them into the streets and they remain most vulnerable in so many ways. They may be raped. Their girls, equally, face rape and get unwanted pregnancy. The problems of these women can hardly be numbered. Imagine menstruating women and girls being sent out of their homes with nothing. Imagine them staying without food. Not to mention education that would be definitely out of the way?

They remain vulnerable and become second or third wife, still being expected to follow the orders of the husbands.

There are many opportunities and tools that are provided by government, Non-Governmental organisations, religious organisations and Humanitarians globally that could be of immense benefit to them if they had the information getting to them and also, showing how they may benefit from such life enhancing livelihoods initiatives. This is why yhr RESILIENT TIMES is on the newsstand, to serve as a Liaison for the had- to-reach communities that are in their information-poor zones that know nothing a out the outside world and vice versa.
