story

The Internet is a collection of networks permitting intercommunication capable of sharing information. It is of primordial importance in human life because of the fact that it is the ultimate connection; a means of international sharing and easy exchanges as well as a fantastic tool and a marvelous opening onto the world. The Congo is one of the only countries in Africa that has not fully profited from the technology of the Internet.
There was a major difference in the use of the Internet between men and women because men spent a lot of time on the Internet, doing downloads, whereas women were not interested in that. But today this is not the case. The Internet has become more and more important in the social life of women who now benefit from total access to the Internet. By definition, access to the Internet is a means placed at the disposition of an individual with a view toward getting on the Internet, the use of which is very widespread and progresses more and more with it’s diffusion in the Congo, through the Mama Shujaa D.R. Congo World Pulse Center. This permits us and very probably authorizes us to access the Internet for free. When I got connected I was so delighted to be able to do it without interruption. Therefore, it’s only been two months since I’ve been connected, but I already have gained a certain competence and every day I discover many things that allow me to:
• Do searches on Google because, when I visited Cybercafés, the people who worked there did the searches for me, since I did not know how to do them. They did them with exaggerated slowness so that the minutes spread out while I paid 2000 Congolese francs per hour. But,with the resource of World Pulse, I have become expert in searches.I no longer want to go to the Cybercafés as before. Sometimes in the Internet cafés in the city of Bukavu they stole my things (purse, pen, telephone sweater…) because these places were special targets for thieves. I always had to keep a vigilant eye on my things. But in the Mama Shujaa D.R. Congo World Pulse Center of the City of Bukavu it is totally the opposite. I go there without fear or anxiety and my things are always secure.
• Get connected for free, and know how others also can be connected; to have my own email address while in the cybercafés they made me pay 1$ for that.
• Write and send journals as well as comment on those of others.
• Find and make friendships with others. Today I became friends with several people.
• Participate in online discussions;
• Share my information with the help of diverse common languages;
• Do the translation of different journals with the intent of really understanding what others are saying;
• Know how to look for offers together with writing needs on the Internet;
• Educate myself on issues that are important for me, like the issues of the defense of the rights of women;
• Know how to protect the computer from viruses or other computer parasites;
• Know how to copy data onto a flash drive;
• Get together with other groups of scientists for subjects to discuss;
• Send and receive documents, photos, images,…
• Know how to download, fill out, or send administrative documents on the Internet;
• Obtain administrative data or forms via Internet;
• Uncover all the speedy and interesting possibilities on computer.
I congratulate Maman NEEMA who decided to implement the network of World Pulse in the DRC so that Congolese women could make up for their delay on the Internet.
Maman, I salute your distinguished courage as well as your desire to have brought such a network to the Congo, most specifically to Sud- Kivu in the city of Bukavu. I am totally comfortable with that network and that is the reason that I must avow that I could no longer pass by the Internet because it entirely makes up a part of my daily life.
I believe that the World Pulse network has everything that I need to be satisfied. I will stay connected to it because it holds my attention. Today, that connection becomes one of my most preferred preoccupations on this earth because it is so impressive to me.
As a dream: with this connection I dream of also connecting my sisters, my children, as well as all my descendants, so that together we will be able to develop a defense for the rights of women that are in danger.
Invitation: I invite other girls and women to come and see what we’re doing within our Mama Shujaa D.R. Congo World Pulse Center, situated in the DRC, specifically in the City of Bukavu, Commune of Ibanda. Unfortunately I do not have a private computer allowing me to practice in the house but I will need one.
Recommendation:
*I would hope that there could be a significant number of computers in the Mama Shujaa D.R. Congo World Pulse Center because it is so interesting.
* also that we might multiply this center into all the communes of the City of Bukavu, and later in the territories so that all the Local Communities might also benefit from it.
