Maternity Leave and Women's Right

In Bangladesh, in working place, still women are minor in number compared to men mainly because of social compulsion. We have a traditional belief that women's tasks are looking after their families, rearing the children, meet her husband's needs, that's all about it. They are just confined to their household chores. Among the women who have entered workforce, most of them do not get equal employment opportunity as a man employee gets. One of the sensitive issues is maternity leave. If we look at different organizations, it will come out that the maternity leave varies from company to company. In some organizations, women even do not get paid leave during their maternity leave. The maternity leave in Bangladesh vaires from 4 months to 6 months which is not sufficient for a mother. Recently, women of different workforce have raised their voices up for extending the maternity leave to one year. I think a maternity leave should be announced worldwide. Whem a woman does not get enough time during this period, starting from the pregnancy period towards after giving birth to baby, it has negative impacts on women's psychology. The government of Bangladesh needs to take immediate action about this issue.
