Lesson 1 MEL -Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning / Outputs: I have trained many local volunteers in Senegal on various projects since pre-nonprofit status for my NGO registered in USA exclusively for Senegal, West Africa as well as Pro Bono Volunteers during our ongoing tenure with additional Nonprofits in Partnerships and collaborations since 2004. Outcomes: Along the way this helped strengthen our mission and created a motivational upgrade in my vision for potential possibilities that I was not aware of. For example: Sister Associations and collaborations in neighboring countries on the Continent of Africa. Impact: The impactful numbers increased as we expand as to whom we supported, growth and region. Reliable sources of Tracking for Nonprofits: Candid, Charity Navigator, as well as World Pulse. This is super important because we are supported to report yearly 1. Progress 2. Evaluate Initiatives before Implementing. 3. We as a team learn from the results by journal record keeping such as How was our performance in a program. What worked and how can we improve the next program. 4. Sharing the impact: Communicating with Co-workers, Professional Volunteers, Peers, Partnerships and the most important of all: The People we serve. We get a chance to hear how a program, event and service improved and impacted their lives , sharing the possibilities with them that if they participated and take advantage of the services offered they could not only teach themselves but others too! Measuring impact can be complex, but it's essential for understanding the effectiveness of initiatives. Here are some key considerations:

Define Your Goals: Clearly outline what you want to achieve. This will help you identify relevant metrics.

Choose Appropriate Metrics: Select metrics that directly relate to your goals. These can be quantitative (numbers) or qualitative (observations).

Establish a Baseline: Measure the situation before your intervention to compare it to future results.

Collect Data: Gather data using surveys, interviews, observations, or other methods.

Analyze Results: Evaluate the data to determine if your intervention has had the desired impact.

Consider Attribution: Determine if the changes you observe can be directly attributed to your initiative or if other factors were involved.

Common Impact Measurement Methods

Quantitative Methods:

Surveys: Gather data through questionnaires.

Statistics: Analyze numerical data to measure changes.

Economic Impact Analysis: Assess the financial benefits or costs of an initiative.

Qualitative Methods:

Case Studies: In-depth examinations of specific examples.

Interviews: Gather insights from individuals involved.

Focus Groups: Facilitate discussions among groups of people.

Mixed Methods: Combine quantitative and qualitative approaches for a more comprehensive understanding.

Challenges in Impact Measurement

Attribution: Determining the exact cause of a change can be difficult.

Long-term Effects: Some impacts may take time to become apparent.

Unintended Consequences: Initiatives can have unexpected positive or negative effects.

Availability: Access to reliable data may be limited. The List vary depending on occupational endeavor.
