Menitos Back To School 2023

Sorry for late update but the annual event was held on September 23 at Victory Land Smart School in Agege and it was a success.

We preregistered over one hundred students from public and private schools and yet we had unregistered children who attended without pre registering.

The event started with Zero Naira Akube Sales which was a literal flea market setup where all attendees shopped for clothes, shoes and bags Everything was free of charge but each person was limited to two items to ensure everyone got something.

This was followed by speakers encouraging the children to Learn to Learn Better, the theme for this year. Speakers included MRs Fatima Dauda of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and Mrs Biola Odukoya Fawole of Core values Foundation School.

The highlight of the event was the giveaway of thousands of notebooks to students from nursery to primary. Other items included Text boos and Past Questions.

The Station Officer for Elere Police station was also present and encouraged the children to avoid peer pressure especially as it contradicts the purpose of their education. Refreshment was provided by Hoozy Local Spot/Game Hub , Media Coverage was by Imagenation.

WE celebrated the four students who were awarded scholarships as well as those awarded school meals. Jude Oluwagbenro, a regular beneficiary was celebrated for his academic excellence and designs of rechargeable toys and household gadgets like fans and lights.

There was a funny thing that happened that day, one of the speakers came but was so overwhelmed, he excused himself. It was later we realized he didn't expect such a huge turnout at the event.

One other thing that happened was that the parents and stakeholders present encouraged us to spread the WACANDA program to more schools and organization as drug abuse was fast taking the lives of young, promising children in the society. It was decided that we would commence to develop an Anti Drug School Club program that caters for children from as early as primary school.

Considering that the attending children exceeded our target and we were able to give everyone something I would deem the event a success. Also having a resolution to further our goal meant key stakeholders were getting more comfortable and were becoming more willing to discuss step by step solutions, which is a great milestone.

I sincerely appreciate everyone who supported in cash and kind and hope for partnerships towards next year as I hope we can work together and impact more communities
