Hi, I'm Honorine Ngenwi a nurse by profession and a digital ambassador and change maker in world pulse, founder of #Honours foundation and I'd like to share my story with you.
I grew up in a living family but when I lost my parents at the age of 13 my life changed forever. I was trusted into a world of abuse and violence that I have never could I imagine.
I was denied the privilege of being educated and stayed home doing all the house choses.
My friends and neighbours were my surviving points were they contributed some moneys and gave me to start selling sweet to help me go to school.
When I had an accident with oil which I was supposed to fry some pastries with, I wasn't send to the hospital for medical care. One of my neighbours told me to go to Catholic church were I worship and explain my problem to the priest which I did.
Father Emilio a calasansia father help me to treat my wounds. God I thank you for father Emilio for helping me recover.
During my period, I have to go beg for sanitary path to use else friction will deal with me, or I have to use my pant, wash it and wear it again without it getting dry. My resourcefulness and perseverance in seeking help from friends and neighbours was recommended because I was faced with adversity, incredible resilience and determination to survive.
The circle of abuse I experienced from my aunty lead me to an unplanned and unwanted marriage were I continued suffering from violence from my husband. This caused me a profound and lasting impact on my mental and emotional well_being.
The night he hits me for the first time, I lost a part of myself that I'm still trying to find.
Smells: The room was filled with the sickly sweet smell of his cologne mixed with the sharp tang of cigarette smoke. It made my stomach turn.
Clothing: I remember the scratchy fabric of my red dress as I curled up into a ball in the corner, trying to make myself invisible to him.
Dialogue: His words cut through me like a knife, his voice, a menacing whisper, you're worthless he said.
In the dark of domestic violence, I found a strength within myself that I have never knew existed.
My story is not one of the tragedy, but on of triumph. Its a story of how I found my voice, my courage and freedom.
This is the story of my journey from victim to survivors from fear to love, and from darkness to light.
Today am proud of my academic achievement because earning a Higher National Diploma (HND) in nursing despite the challenges faced is a tremendous accomplishment that highlights my strength and my determination.
Though I still had some adversity during my educational path, I still had some challenges.
There were juggling work, family issues and school problems. I had to overcome these problems by selling table birds, vegetables, foodstuff and pastries.
During this period, I felt powerless.
I felt like my heart was being crushed under the weight of my own fear and sadness.
I was drowning in a sea of despair and couldn't see a way out of the darkness.
The emotional abuse was like a slow poison, killing me from the inside out.
I lived in a constant fear never knowing when next attack would come.
Its now that I know that violence and abusive relationships can make victims feel like they have no control over their lives and are at the mercy of their abusers.
Today I stand tall and proud knowing that I survived the darkness of violence.
I never understood that I am worthy of love, respect and kindness and I will never allow anyone to take that away from me again.
The journey of healing was long and difficult but with therapy support from friends and neighbours and self_compassion I was able to reclaim my power and worth.
Our mission is to empower survivors of violence by providing resources, support a safe space to heal and thrive.
We are dedicated to breaking the cycle of violence by providing services, education, out reach and advocacy service to those affected by abuse.
Our organization is committed to raising awareness about violence and fostering a culture of respect and safety for all.
I start my journey as a way to heal from my trauma by sharing my story. I am taking back my powers and helping others to find their own healing.
I want to empower others by showing them that they are not alone and that there is hope for a better future.
My journey is a way for me to turn my pains into some thing positive and make a difference in the world.
Taking an oath to fight against violence not only demonstrates my own strength and resilience, I'd also show my commitment to helping others who may be experiencing the same struggle.
" I vow to use my voice and my experiences to help others who may be suffering in silence.
Together we can break the cycle of violence and create a safer more loving world to all".
