My Vision and Goals

Hello ladies,

I would like to share what i plan to do with you so that you give your comments and insights. I have a dream of liberating the underprivilleged, the minority groups in the society especially women.

My general vision for my community is pegged on the fact that most of the women in my community, including my immediate neighbours, the somalis, never got a chance to go to school. (I stay in the Eastlands part of Nairobi, Eistleigh, where somali refugees reside too). To me, i look at education as an empowerment tool since it is through education that people can be enlightened. It is through knowledge that people can share information and create self awareness. I am saying this because of my past experiences, how i struggled so hard and at one point ran away from home to seek refuge at my aunt's place when i was in Primary seven. My father wanted to marry me off at a tender age but i wanted to experience the touch of education. As early as primary four, i already had a dream of joining the university some day.
By the way, i studied Communications and Literature majors in the University of Nairobi. The communication bit blends well with journalism, which has also been my dream profession.

Oops! sorry for the diversion. It is just because i have a lot to share with you. So apart from raising my voice to the world and pointing out the injustices inflicted on the voiceless and the minority groups through my journalistic skills, the other goal i would like to achieve is to set up a community educational centre where those who were denied the precious chance of education can access it and be able to connect to the world. A place where these groups can learn how to read and write and get the general idea of what goes on around their world. I would like them to realize that age is only but a number and that they can still get a chance to redefine themselves, their goals, their visions, their world.
