story
Susan a twenty three years old girl for the first time in her life had a positive smile and said,"Madam it's my first time to have someone who has interest in my life". As she finalized her word, she broke down in tears and narrated her story to me.
It's so challenging to grow up in a home where no body cares about you. Susan's parents separated when she was five years old. The mother went into another marriage and the father married another wife. That act changed her life from a child to a house worker. She went through many series of abuses and finally she decided to follow her mother. When she went to her mother, the step father send her away. She finally decided to go to the aunt. The aunt said the only way she could survive was to be given to the auntie's friend to work as a maid in Nairobi city. The woman who took her promised to take her to school after three months of work.
Her journey of work started. She worked for three months without pay hoping to get to secondary school soon. When time came she was send to prison instead, she was caused of a false allegations that she had threatened to kill the employer. She fought for herself in prison by explaining what happened to a group of lawyers who came to prison and was finally released after three years.
She smiles as she joins other girls joining Lenana girls project.
Thank you world pulse for giving such an opportunity for voiceless women to voice up. I have finally realised more through Work pulse.
I am encouraged to work more efficiently and reach more girls. I thought I had thirty-five only but the mentorship program has opened many hearts and more girls are coming in.
May God help me raise funds to reach them and change their stories.
