No Woman is an Island: My vision for myself, my community and the world!

story
My personal vision is to realize full potential as a woman all round. I realize the importance of maintaining my heart-mind-body balance so that I don’t fragment. I have a passion to build women’s lives, which can only become possible if I am healthy, and if my heart and soul are in the right place – my body. If I am disconnected I will grow frustrated and create a toxic atmosphere around me, which will in turn lead to massive failure in all my endeavors. I will not be able to reach my women with valid and empowering ideas, taking to them instead poisonous garbage and failure. Many women’s organizations today have lost their agenda, becoming caught up in the same patriarchal bureaucracies because activists therein have allowed their bodies to be fragmented by putting all their energies, budgets and value towards organizations and towards other people whilst neglecting their own bodies and well-being.
The vision I have for my community is to re-create lives, relationships and perceptions. I have a passion to rebuild the community, especially where women’s lives are concerned. I want to work with women to create a strong grassroots movement for women’s empowerment at all fronts. I envision a community where women do not depend on patriarchal organizational hierarchies, but one where they work together as a critical mass for one cause; to gain economic and political muscle, championing the world and working at par with men to create egalitarian societies.
I have a vision to create a new world, one where all women and men are stripped of traditional pre-conceived ideas, where the young, the old and those in-between feel free to explore themselves deeply, knowing that we pass through this world only once, hence the need to make the best of our time to benefit both ourselves and those around us.
I want to be a member of Voices of Our Correspondent because I realize that no woman is an island, and also that we require many varied strategies to change this world. Having some people to support you is key to achieving one’s vision. In the five-month Voices of our Correspondent training program I will be paired with a personal professional woman with global experience in mentoring and coaching. This mentor will provide me with the support and care that I need as a change leader, and also act as additional ears to listen to my worries, ideas, as well as eyes to reconceptualise my vision. This programme also has a powerful resource exchange facility where I can expand my world view. The journalism skills training will take my writing career to higher levels, and I will benefit immensely from the ideas of fellow members, taking my voice and voices of my community women beyond borders and barriers.
