Nobody Warned Me That Becoming an Adult Would Feel This Lonely

You can have a full contact list, a busy phone, and still have nobody you feel safe enough to call.

I discovered something about adulthood that nobody warned me about.

Loneliness doesn’t always look like being alone. Sometimes, it looks like sitting in a room full of people and realizing you haven’t told anyone how you’re actually doing.

Sometimes, it looks like opening WhatsApp, scrolling through dozens of names, and putting your phone down because you don’t know who to say:

“I’m not okay today.”

Nobody told me adulthood would be like this.

They told me I would become independent.

They told me I would make my own decisions, earn my own money, build my own life and finally have the freedom I once prayed for. They forgot to mention that freedom can sometimes feel strangely lonely.

Maybe growing up isn’t about learning how to live without people, it’s learning which people are worth calling when the room gets quiet.

And perhaps that’s the part nobody warned us about.

We were never meant to become adults who needed nobody but become adults who finally understood who we could call.
