Nominating Busayo Obisakin for a World Pulse Spirit Award
Feb 7, 2022
story
From protecting an aunt from violence by her uncle, to organizing a group of women in her community to stop forward together, to now being the administrator of the NGO Women Inspiration Development Center that she created and built with her own hands and her wide-open generous heart, Busayo has not only created support for countless women and girls, she has shared organizational skills while focussing always on direct support to empower any woman or girl lucky enough to find her, ensuring that those with the least support are first in line.
She is easy to find as she is a tireless and constant activist, remaining focussed on her basic priorities: ending all violence, in particular towards women and girls, and ensuring that those with the least support are first in line.
Last March during International Women’s month I had the joy of experiencing first hand through zoom, Busayo bringing together a roomful of girls, seeing the faces of these girls listening closely to Busayo, calling out, raising their voices at her invitation, building a connection, strengthening their connections with each other. She long has been and is continually changing the lives of so many, making sure that women and girls of all ages know that a different world is not only possible, it is starting now.
Here on World Pulse she is a leader, her voice always strong, thoughtful, steady and with such wisdom infused with love. She has been here with us since 2009. She was one of the first I experienced a welcome from in an online training for Encouragers in 2014. She has inspired me ever since.
It is with deep joy that I have this chance to nominate Busayo for a World Pulse Spirit Award.
