PHILIPPINES: Run for Change in the #TAKBANG2025 to Support Girls’ Healing and Rights

What TAKBANG Stands For

Hi! I’m Morgana, an International Studies student from Miriam College - Quezon City and a proud member of Talitha Cumi, Miriam College's official Scholars' organization.

As someone deeply passionate about women’s rights and social justice, I believe change begins with showing up, not just in classrooms or conversations, but in action.

This is why I’m inviting all individuals and advocates, regardless of gender, near Quezon City to #TAKBANG2025, an Advocacy Run and Solidarity Summit happening on May 4, 2025, at Miriam College! We’d love for you to be part of this transformative event.

This run is called TAKBANG because it brings together three powerful Filipino words that capture the spirit of our advocacy:

🟣 TAKBO (Tagalog)To run, to act, to refuse to stay still in the face of injustice.

🟣 TINDIG (Tagalog)To stand, a promise of presence and unshaken resolve.

🟣 TÁBANG (Hiligaynon)To help, more than kindness. It’s collective action and care.

The Beneficiary: Tahanan Sta. Luisa

This is more than a run, this is our call to rise for the protection, healing, and empowerment of young girls who have experienced abuse and neglect on the streets of Metro Manila. Our partner for this event is Tahanan Sta. Luisa, a crisis intervention center providing shelter, therapy, and education to girls who’ve faced unimaginable trauma. The proceeds from the run will go directly to their recovery. These girls are not just survivors; they are dreamers, fighters, and future changemakers. And with your help, we can create a world where their past no longer defines them.

Miriam Women Lead—Now You Can Too

This event will be held at Miriam College - Quezon City, a premier women’s institution known for producing empowered leaders grounded in truth, justice, peace, and the integrity of creation. It has been the academic home of trailblazing women such as Nikki Coseteng, a former senator and cultural advocate; Josefa “Pepi” Francisco, a former head of the Department of International Studies and a fierce champion of women's rights; Korina Sanchez, an award-winning broadcast journalist; Maria Rosario "Chat" Silayan-Bailon, actress and Miss Universe 1980 Third Runner-Up; and Margie Moran, Miss Universe 1973 and granddaughter of former President Manuel Roxas. Miriam College continues to inspire and shape women to rise and lead in every arena, and #TAKBANG2025 is one more stride in that direction.

This event is more than meaningful. It’s also packed with perks! Runners will receive:

🏃‍♀️ A TAKBANG String Bag

👕 A Singlet

🎖️ A Finisher’s Medal

🎟️ Companion stubs

📜 A Certificate of Donation
