Pitching Your Op-Ed When You Need Anonymity

Dear Correspondents,

I hope that many of you are considering pitching your op-ed pieces to local or international publications. Normally, editors require op-eds to have real names attached. However, if you have taken an alias for safety and security reasons, you can still pitch your assignment! Michele suggests using the following language in your pitch:

"I understand that anonymity may not be an option you normally consider, but this editorial is critically timely and important for your audience. For my own personal safety I need to have a guarantee of anonymity, but I stand behind the accuracy and truth of my words. Every fact is true, every observation is true and can be verified. Perhaps you can consider a byline such as "Voices of Our Future Correspondent" or "Global Contributor". I believe the content is important enough to override the established practice of a byline of accountability in this case. I am accountable for what I write, but I cannot be in personal danger."

If you have any questions, let us know!

Kind regards,

Rachael
