Poems of the Compassionate

"I care for you
and the cries of your heart,
your adolescent heart that never
fully experienced the freedom of a teenager
because of poverty, hunger...
You embraced the responsibility that somehow
belongs to your parents but I know,
I truly understand it all;
the pain behind the sentiments between cycle and role
of poverty..."
Airyn Lentija
This is one part of the first of many poems I have read on here and I am astounded by the passion and sincerity in this woman's words. There is so much pain yet so much hope in there too. It's sweet but it's very harsh and powerful as well. I have a hard time trying to find a balance in the pessimism and the realism to leave any room for the optimism. But when I come across small things like these, well I can't help but not be hopeful. "I care for you and the cries of your heart". I can related that to my book Dreaming of Baghdad so much right now, the way the author writes in her letters so meaningful and human like. It really pulls you into the book, and this poem does the same thing. I really enjoyed it and got a lot out of it.
