Precious, a precious girl

I watched a movie in Tubi this afternoon and it is really impressive, so I decide to record it in World Pulse as my second post .

The movie is " Precious". The main character of the story is a girl named Claireece Precious Jones. the short description for her in the film is that she is overweight and is pregnant with her second child when she is 16. She lived in a family where her mother consistently scolded at, beat, verbally and physically abused her with the most obscene words. Her father sexually abused and raped her and made her pregnant, while her mother just watched all that happening. And she even beat Claireece because she thinks it is Claireece who took her husband away from her.

Precious, which is what Claireece goes by herself, is physically and mentally tortured, and she suffered from serious psychological syndromes. For example, she would always reframe the scene after she was abused by her mother to make it less violent and in it she imagined a harmonious family scene where her mother was a responsible mother and did everything just good for her, which to a certain degree is a self-protection mechanism. But this mental representation also sustained her painful experience and restricted her self-consciousness to fight for her rights.

But luckily, she met a teacher, who induced her to an alternative school and found her inner peace and the courage to fight against her mother's violence.

What struck me most is Precious' reconstruction and reinterpretation of all those bad things she experienced. That is the only light in her life, the only time she feel being treated with respect, but people will call it a psychosis. How ironic it is that she is named "Precious" but is the least precious for her family.

The movie is very good and it give me some reflections on one of my ambitious(If it is worth being called that) goal---create a NGO to accomplish what governmental policy and institution failed to or didn't have the "time" to cope with.

I have been thinking about create a NGOs with the mission that combines psychological disorder with women empowerment. But due to a strict regulation on NGO in mainland China, I would like to register it in other countries if possible(But it is too early to consider it . Right now there are a lot of proposals to make at hand) . I will go to Kenya in Junuary 2025 to be a local volunteer and there are a lot of mature and influential NGOs in Kenya. I intent to learn from them and engage with them. There is still a long way to go. I will make a more specific proposal in the future and I sincerely hope to involve many more people with the same mission with me.

My major is international politics and I know how ambitious politics promised but how lagging and falling into cliche it is when it comes to specific social issues. I really want to make a change. However, It is just a idea today, a seed. But one day I believe it will be as strong as a towering trees where more and more girls can thrive under its empowerment.
