We would like to join the world in celebrating International Women's Day. Why? In the DRC, women have a great deal they can contribute to the work done by men. With their help, we will be able to tackle the challenges of poverty, if not also the plight of the population and the culture of violence, indifference, corruption, theft and selfishness, though those are not the only challenges faced by our country. In his sovereignty, God intends for men and women to manage and look after humanity and the rest of creation effectively. We will never achieve progress in our country if we do not adhere to that will and vision of God. Men and women have an equal interest in women being able to contribute the best they can. The system in which many women have grown up – with customs and traditions that affect how they are educated – has kept them prisoner for a long time, and has paralysed them in their ability to give all they can.
Some men and women have now understood and begun to fight for change, but the challenges are still huge. That is why we need each and every person's help to teach those who still do not understand the importance of women being able to blossom fully and contribute as best they can to the development of the DRC. Based on that outlook, Africa Reconciled is organising a two-day workshop on the Leadership of Women in the DRC. It will be aimed at leading women in the city of Goma, which is in North Kivu province.
