"Red Banks for Red warriors" is an initiative launched by Dr Tumasang Swiri Foundation headed by Dr Solange Swiri Tumasang, World pulse featured changemaker, aiming to provide sanitary product banks to communities in Cameroon affected by crisis, conflict, and poverty, promoting menstrual health and dignity.
"Red Banks for Red Warriors" is a powerful campaign to address menstrual health and hygiene, especially for those in crisis or poverty.
Cameroon has been the scene to various internal conflicts with many women and girls displaced. They don't have access to sanitary products and at times are forced to use leaves, part of their clothes and other rudimentary items to protect themselves from the monthly menstrual flow. Coupled with the expensive nature of sanitary products, it makes it difficult for women to purchase these.
It is in this line that we came up with this initiative which has as objective to open sanitary pad banks in 10 localities of our country: refugee camps, remote villages, schools and churches. These "red banks" will be equipped with sanitary pads (both disposable and reusable), toilet papers, sanitary buckets, soap and pants. In addition to that, we will have a team which will be there to provide education on how to use the reusable sanitary pads and it's management. The access will be open to vulnerable girls who can pass there and register and have the possibility to collect these products.
We therefore hope to get about 5000 sanitary pads and related products in these banks.
We call on well wishers and other organisations to help donate some of these products to help girls come out of the stigma and discrimination and shame related to menstruation.
We intend keeping this program sustainable through frequent calls for donations and also training girls on producing reusable sanitary pads. We will hold workshops where we will produce the pads and keep in the banks.
Our initiative will run for one year in 2026 for phase one and we will extend it based on the success and impact it records.
This initiative will not only give girls the dignity they deserve but also increase their confidence, improve those of school going age academic performance and overall mental, emotional and physical well-being.
Every donation brings dignity closer to those who need it most. Help us break the stigma and empower women and girls in Cameroon. Support 'Red Banks for Red Warriors' today and be part of a movement that says, 'You are seen, you are heard, and you are worthy.'
