I have seen silent pain. I have held the hands of women who could not speak of their trauma because the world around them refused to understand it.
At LEFI, one of our most sacred missions is to walk with survivors of obstetric fistula; women who have endured childbirth injuries that left them leaking, rejected, and ashamed. Many were once full of dreams. Then came the trauma: prolonged labor, a health system that failed them, and communities that abandoned them.
But we believe brokenness is not the end. We believe in restoration.
We don’t just provide referrals for medical care; we offer sisterhood, community reintegration, and post-surgical repair support. Through the Solidarity Groups, we have created a space where fistula survivors can gather, speak, and rebuild. Some have started businesses. Some have begun advocacy, and course all have simply smiled again.
This work has taught me that dignity can be restored. That with love, listening, and empowerment, women can rise even from the most painful places.
“You are not your condition. You are still whole, still worthy, still chosen.”
