As we strive to empower even more women and families, we're taking a significant leap forward by building a 100% Sustainable Agroecology Demonstration Farm at our field office land in Bomet County Kenya.
Leading by Example & Building Capacity:
This farm won't just be a learning space, it will be a living testament to our commitment to sustainability. The fresh produce harvested from the farm will directly support our initiatives, providing nutritious food for workshops and training sessions. Profits generated from any surplus produce will be reinvested back into our core mission: empowering more women with the skills and resources to build sustainable livelihoods.
A Seedbed for Sustainability & Knowledge Sharing:
Our farm goes beyond demonstration. We aim to create a dynamic hub for learning and knowledge exchange:
- Produce Seedlings for the Community: We'll cultivate and distribute seedlings directly to the community, fostering the spread of valuable indigenous seeds and promoting biodiversity.
- Indigenous Seed Propagation: Safina Empowerment will actively propagate indigenous seeds, ensuring their availability and preserving this vital genetic heritage.
- Training & Empowering Trainers: We'll offer affordable training programs for farmers and investors on sustainable farming practices and the benefits of indigenous seeds. A core aspect of this training will be the "Trainers of Trainers" model. By involving the community women's groups in the farm's development process, we'll equip them with the knowledge and skills to become trainers themselves, empowering them to share their expertise with others and ensure the long-term sustainability of this initiative.
Sustainable in Every Aspect:
Our unwavering commitment to sustainability extends to every aspect of the farm's operation:
- 100% Sustainable Practices: We'll utilize best practices like composting, cover cropping, and crop rotation to maintain soil health and minimize environmental impact.
- Solar-Powered Irrigation: Water conservation is a priority. We'll implement a solar-powered irrigation system, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and ensuring efficient water usage.
- Affordable Seedlings & Training: We'll offer seedlings and training programs at prices lower than the local market, making sustainable practices accessible to a wider audience.
Building a Collaborative Future:
This farm will be a collaborative effort. Our dedicated team members will be actively involved in its development and upkeep, fostering a sense of shared ownership. We'll also involve volunteers, further strengthening the bonds within the community. Workshops and training sessions will be held at the farm, making it a vibrant center for learning and knowledge exchange.
