Shout Out Your Voice to the World!

I am excited by the sheer vastness of Web 2.0 and how a huge platform exits, which allows for so much exchange of information, knowledge, ideas, concepts, heart-warming stories, tear-causing moments, and that it allows women from every corner of the earth to connect with one another! Connecting for me is one of the most basic and powerful assets that we as women possess. I believe that it is in connecting that we find a sense of belonging, acceptance and true sister-hood with one another.

So many women, young and old, keep their pains, joys, excitement, disappointments and an array of emotions to themselves, because of fear and no safe space to share them.

With the technology and tools that Web 2.0 offers, the opportunity to open up and share with one another is made very real. Women of all ages, cultures, religions, opinions, dispositions need and must have a safe space to share, to connect, to just be - it is not a privilege, but their right to do so. For far too many years women’s voices have been silenced by male-dominated societies that dictate what, when, how, who women should be, or where their place in society ought to be.

By using Web 2.0 and its tools, women make their own decisions, write what they feel, tell who they want, and have a free and wonderful space to shout out their voice to the world!
The proof of the power that Web 2.0 brings to women and to the women’s empowerment movement is already reflected in the many heart-wrenching and heart-warming stories told by women of their own or their fellow sister’s hardships and abuse, joys and support they found in social networking, or through social media or new media, such as Pulse Wire and other similar applications.

I see every day in my own interaction how women are becoming empowered, are empowering each other and are definitely changing the way the world looks at them, by using these tools.
My intentions are to continue to use and learn more about Web 2.0, so that I can help to bring the real stories of and create awareness about teen girls being sexually exploited in my country to my sisters and the world. By learning more effectively how to use Web 2.0, I want to empower myself so that I can help to empower girls and women, to have a voice! Through teaching them how to use these tools, they will not only be able to tell their own stories, but will do so in a safe manner. In this way, my hope is that they will be empowered and in turn empower and inspire other women to do the same.

I am inspired to continuously look for ways and means to help women on their healing and empowerment journeys and with Web 2.0 the solutions for the challenges that we as women face are at our finger tips!
