Slavery

I have learned about the modern slavery from our neighboring province Sindh and Punjab where thousands of men, women and children are the victim of slavery in the hand of slave holders called “Waderaas” or “Choudaries”. The land owners in Pakistan are the wealthiest man in their district. The factory and land owners are providing loans or advance salaries to those who are totally broken and are not able to return the debt they received in advanced. The creditors provide loan to poor with tough rules and brutal consequences before hiring them. They have strong links between police, politician and an army. Grant of loan from the bank requires tremendous paper work to obtain loan. Therefore, poor village people have no choice for the grant of loans other then the “creditors”; it is easy, fast and prompted access to have received their cash. Receiving cash means to get trapped in slavery selling themselves to the creditors for life time not as a factory or farm worker but as a slave. When we talk about the slavery it is Africa and the only ancient culture that click our mind the Egyptian, the Greek and the Romans. But when you see the primordial culture still in practice in the most of pagan countries gives the enthusiastic the impression to move forward and fight to end this gloomy culture. It was my first shocking experience when I watched men and women trapped in the house of compassion; the land lord’s basement in the province of Sindh, Pakistan. These labors/'slaves' are here to work as a farm worker to carry out their duties in the field. They work and live in the farm some with chains and some without they work in the farm the entire day and at night they live in the basement with heavily guarded men with weapons. The farm workers were never treated as a worker but slave. The basements conditions are much worst then the Auschwitz -Birkenau concentration camp of Poland. Indeed they are not here to relish but suffer hard by tightened up in sequence with still chain. The purpose of tightening with chain is to make sure that they won’t be able to escape. They all look confused and broken; there faces are hazed up by the darkness of pitiless rules. And when they hold up their hands, their fingers are permanently pressed the tendons in their wrist, ankles and thighs have been left with deep scratch by repeated tightened chain, hard work and brutal punishments. Each gender groups were kept in deferent basement without food but with some water in yellow mud jar. The way of living in the basement is incredibly shocking, and the food they get almost resembling poison, and access to medical care is far behind a question.

In the most of the third world countries the horrible living conditions of under the poverty line people are indeed very scandalous. Their precarious living situation is nerve-racking and their shaky situation twists the civil organization to fight to minimize the risk of horrified situation they are trapped. If fighting to end poverty seems to be impossible but fighting to minimize its risk of poverty seems possible, practicable and promising to those who have dedicated themselves for better tomorrow and we are one of them.
