Social Impact Networks & Connection Circles: What They Mean to Me

Happy International Women's Day!
I used to think impact was something you had to be rich or powerful to create. That it was reserved for people in high places. But I was wrong.
The first time I truly understood the power of connection circles, I wasn’t the one telling my story, I was listening.
I had the opportunity to volunteer for an NGO in Port Harcourt, working for free because I wanted to learn and serve. That was where I met Professor Charity Okujagu. She wasn’t just a professor; she was a woman who had fought through storms and still stood tall.
She was the first woman to obtain a PhD in the Physics Department at her university, a feat that, even today, remains rare. But her journey didn’t stop at academic success. She survived three terrible accidents that could have ended her life. She lost her husband in the Sosoliso plane crash, one of the most heartbreaking tragedies in Nigeria’s history. And yet, she kept moving forward.
Listening to her, I realized something powerful: Our stories hold the power to inspire action.
They remind us that no matter how difficult the road gets, we can rise. That’s what social impact networks do. They connect us to people who have walked the path before us, to voices that remind us that we, too, are capable.
When I joined World Pulse, I found more stories like hers—women defying odds, pushing boundaries, creating change. Their words didn’t just inspire me; they moved me to act. That’s why I started EduLift for Indigenous Teens, a project dedicated to helping underprivileged students in Nigeria access education, skills, and scholarships. Because I know firsthand that when one woman rises, she pulls others up with her.
This year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Accelerate Action,” is a call to do more. To take bold steps. To not just be inspired, but to become the inspiration for someone else.
So here’s my message to you: You don’t have to wait to have it all figured out. You don’t have to be the strongest or the smartest. You just have to start.
Because your story, your work, your voice, it matters.
And remember, we are bringing the world together through the digital space for good.
