Sombhabona’s Warm Embrace: Spreading Winter Warmth in Sundarganj

Sombhabona’s Warm Embrace: Spreading Winter Warmth in Sundarganj

On a chilly Friday morning, the quiet village of Mahishbandi in Sundarganj, Gaibandha, witnessed an outpouring of warmth and kindness. At the grounds of Mahishbandi Government Primary School, Sombhabona, a social and volunteer-driven organization, distributed winter clothes to over 500 underprivileged children and cold-stricken individuals.

With the support of the local volunteer group, Real Change of Bangladesh (RCB), sweaters, pants, and socks were lovingly handed out to those battling the harsh winter. The event was graced by renowned women’s cricket trainer Arifa Jahan Bithi, cricketers Halima Akter and Shanu Akter, social activists Sakhawat Hossain, Ferdous Sarkar, Mofakhharul Mannan, Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Manzurul Mannan, journalist Sudipta Shamim, RCB President Habibullah Sarkar, former President Humayun Kabir, and other dedicated members of the organization.

For many, this was more than just receiving warm clothing—it was a lifeline in the bitter cold.

Mariam Begum, an elderly woman from Belka Nawabganj village, shared with teary eyes:

"Sleeping at night had become unbearable. I was surviving with nothing but a thin saree wrapped around me. Now, with this warm blanket, I will finally find some relief. May God bless those who made this possible."

Akbar Ali, a struggling farmer, expressed his gratitude:

"Being poor means not being able to afford even a single warm piece of clothing. Winter mornings are cruel when I have to leave for work in the freezing cold. This gift will protect me. May Allah give them strength to keep helping people like us."

Hasan Mia, a fourth-grade student at Mahishbandi Government Primary School, beamed with joy:

"I used to shiver all the time, my hands and feet felt like ice. But now, I have a warm sweater! I can finally go to school and play outside without feeling cold. I’m so happy!"

This initiative wasn’t just about distributing clothes—it was about restoring hope and dignity. It was about standing beside those who are often forgotten in the winter’s cruel embrace.

Through acts of kindness like this, Sombhabona continues to prove that humanity shines the brightest in times of hardship.
