Spend a penny* on November 19th

November 19th is the International 'Day Of The Toilet'.

No, I am not joking - and to 'celebrate', the Chinese are opening a unisex public convenience where stalls will be allocated not by gender but on a first come, first served basis. Because, like most things in China, it will be properly staffed.

But, you're thinking, what are we supposed to do to mark the day?

Well, what advances have been made in recent years?

Are there reductions in queues for public ones? Have prices at paying ones been reduced? Is there an improvement in the ratio of facilities for women against men? Has more tp been made available? NO, NO, NO, and NO

But, MORE IMPORTANTLY, are girls and women still without toilets in some countries? YES

Are girls and women forced in some countries to use 'a toilet' in the presence of other girls and women? Sadly, YES

Or even sometimes with boys and men able to look on and take advantage of them? VERY sadly, YES

My own thoughts on toilets will have bored you elsewhere, but the fact is that we MUST NOT rest until EVERY woman in the world has access to 'The Three P's' in order to p.

Then we can celebrate November 19th!

*In my country, 'spend a penny' is a euphemism for having a pee, because - believe it or not - before the Equal Opportunites Act, women had to pay, men didn't.
