Stop the control mechanism. Respect Abortion Right

Every since the turning of abortion laws in the United States as a constitutional rights I have not gone to bed without pondering over this lie we want to continue living around the globe. I can't help but wonder why this continuous politics on women's reproductive rights. I sat in my office this afternoon looking at the mid year reports of our organization COMAGEND and this thought came to my mind "Sally would you have been able to sit on this seat and do all this work for women and girls' sexual and reproductive health rights if you had kept the pregnancy at 16?" "Yea it is criminal to  get an abortion and a sin in our country and religion but what options besides the laws and rules did I have as a woman to prevent unwanted pregnancy?"I must admit that a frank conversation on abortion rights is one of the hardest to have even 27 years after I had a crude abortion at the back side of a drug store. Interestingly, from generation to generations abortion care is needed by women at some stage of their lives although the world is handling this basic need for motherhood with a lot of stigma, shaming and politics.I have worked on reproductive rights in Cameroon for over a decade meeting over 50000 adolescent girls and young women. The stigma and insensitive laws continue to be flagged as a major barrier for women and girls to attain their full potentials. These barriers have led to lack of unbiased information for people to make choices, and also comprehensive abortion care a life saver service especially during armed conflict like that ongoing in my community not prioritized.  Unfortunately cases of unsafe abortions continue to be registered at different health care units in our communities. It is claimed that unsafe abortions account for up to 30 percent of maternal mortality rate. As a feminist and reproductive rights advocate, I feel the world keeps letting women down with this exaggerated politics and power play to control women's bodily autonomy. I am trying to understand why a need being articulated by those who are affected keeps being undermined by law makers who are supposed to ensure justice and freedom of expression for all.I look forward to that day when conversations on abortion rights will go beyond controlling a group with laws to being a basic right to life for those who need it. Yes this is when the conversation will not be driven by our personal biases and egos but by rationality and being realistic.
