Struggle of love - Sri Lanka

Struggle of love - Sri Lanka

Fathers who are struggling for days in oil queues, mothers who are worried about what to feed their children, children who are trapped in Zoom classes

On the other hand, young power who are struggling against corrupt politicians despite of tear gas and bullets

This is the current situation in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka, if not Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, is a small island located in South Asia with a population of about 22 million.  Due to politicians' greed for power and poor economic management policies, we are facing a huge economic crisis.

Due to the huge shortage of oil in the country, people are waiting in oil queues for days without eating or drinking.  Commodity prices have become unaffordable for the common man.  Due to the shortage of gas that has been going on for months, the people of the city side are in a lot of trouble.  Schools and universities are all paralyzed and students' lives are dying in front of computer screens.  The prices of goods have skyrocketed so that common people cannot afford them. Patients die prematurely due to lack of essential medicines. Regular power cuts suck off the valuable time of the people. But still corrupt politicians do not care about the country, despite of their power.

Our country is embedded in unpayable debt. Sri Lanka imports $3bn (£2.3bn) more than it exports every year. Former President Rajapaksa had also been criticized for tax cuts he introduced in 2019, which lost the government income of more than $1.4bn (£1.13bn) a year.

In 1948, Sri Lanka gain independence from British rule. Since then, Sri Lankan politicians have worked hard to enrich their personal wealth rather than developing the country.  Sri Lanka, which is a very fertile land that receives rain throughout the year, has now reached the point where almost everything is imported from abroad.  In 2009, after freeing the country from 30 years of brutal terrorism, the government led by Mahinda Rajapaksa started to develop the country by taking continuous loans. But until today, no ruler has taken proper actions on the sources of income for the country. They say that the covid 19 pandemic and the Easter bomb series in 2019 are the reason for this economic collapse.

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected almost every country.  Today we have to ask for aid even from Bangladesh, which was at a lower economic level than Sri Lanka.

The main reason for all that was the lack of proper economic planning and management, and the big thefts of the Rajapaksa family and other politicians.

While our people were suffering for a meal, the politicians danced madly in the Parliament asking for their car permits and pleasures.  They want to preserve their power on the blood of the people.  They always called the people poor and needy people.  They want Sri Lankans to live as poor, helpless and ignorant people.  Then they can reach power on the shoulders of those fools.

Amidst the protests that arose around the country, a great struggle was started from April to kick out the corrupt politicians.  In this case, I saw that women's hearts are stronger than men's.

Children and mothers push stalled three-wheelers and bikes to oil sheds, mothers breastfeed their children while selling small goods along roads, a woman who has no money to take her new born baby home, is waiting for a bus at the bus stop, Mothers and kids raising their voices on the ground of struggle, university students run through tear gas and fight for the most beautiful time of their lives, without any fear for bullets, young girls on big stages aware people

Yes, it is the women power.

Even Muslim women who have not been open to the world for so long are coming forward to protect their motherland.

On July 9, our people occupied the president house and their premises.

Do you know, the journalist who went to the front to inform about the people's struggle despite all the military attacks and tear gas is a 23-year-old girl.

Yes, one of our young women went forward fearlessly to show the country, the blood, tears, and sweat of the people.

But that evening, even though she said no, she was hit by the soldiers until she fell on the ground due to a political order.  This is the law of Sri Lanka.  Our people have come to the streets against this vile politics.

Anti-government protests have been going on in Colombo since April 9.  Our people are encamped and continuously struggling to oust the President.

In the meantime, women are also struggling while spending nights for days.

Do you have any understanding of what kind of social discourse will arise if a woman spends a night in a small camp in a South Asian country?  But believe me, our women are struggling like men without any problems. Sri Lankan men are so polite on women.

But at the beginning, an idiotic politician had implemented a ridiculous plan to show the world, the immoral behavior of women by piling up condoms all over the camping side. It was really ridiculous.  Later the whole country came to know through CCTV footage that it was their own idiotic plan.

In another time, they planned to incite racism. Sri Lanka consists mainly of Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim nations. Our politicians have made a habit of coming to power by inciting racism.  But this time, they failed.

Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims all fought together as Sri Lankans.  They eat together, sleep together, and rejoice together in the field of struggle.  Indeed, when I saw them, I thought that we had won the struggle. Our people are that much united.  Muslim women come out of burka and shout for the country. As a Sinhalese girl, I am very proud of my Muslim sisters.

Unity of Sri Lankans

As I am far away from Colombo, I am not able to participate in the struggle regularly.  But I go there as often as there is a chance. Every day I saw women struggling on public platforms.  I saw young mothers sitting on ground and feeding their babies.  I saw women walking on crutches in the struggle area.  I saw young women who are taking their lovers in wheelchairs to the struggle.

Indeed, women who call themselves flowers possess ironic hearts beyond smooth elegance.

Our timid president flees the country on a military jet on 09th of July.

And today, on 14th of July, President Gotabaya Rajapksha has declared his official resignation. This is a great victory we got in our history.

Even as I write this, our people are struggling against the government.  The government has already sacrificed the lives of many people, but our people are still fighting for the country.

My blue green country surrounded by beautiful beaches has been turned into a hell by miserable politicians.  They brutally destroyed our young dreams.  I can't wait to see a day when the people of my country breathe freely and happily.

I hope every country with pure heart citizens will stare their eyes on our country.

At last I have to say the world,

Don’t underestimate the power of a common man.
