Supporting female journalists with disabilities and those suffering from night blindness

Update on the Noura Initiative to Combat Violence Against Women

The Noura Initiative to Combat Violence Against Women continues its efforts to monitor women's issues and highlight the most vulnerable and marginalized groups in society. In this context, the initiative has learned about a group of female journalists who suffer from disabilities or night blindness, and who are in dire need of support to continue their professional work under extremely difficult circumstances.

Through initial follow-up and coordination with the Solidarity Forum for Women Journalists, the urgent need to shed light on this group of female journalists who work in an environment that does not take into account their special needs and face multiple challenges resulting from gender-based discrimination in addition to their disability status has emerged.

The initiative is currently working to gather preliminary information on the conditions of these female journalists and the challenges they face.

Explore opportunities for collaboration with organizations that support the rights of persons with disabilities and female journalists simultaneously.

Near-term goals:

Reach out to this group of female journalists and hear their experiences directly.

Developing an initial plan for support programs that include professional aspects (training and empowerment) and humanitarian aspects (psychological and moral support).

Seeking broader partnerships to ensure the sustainability of efforts and their transformation into practical programs on the ground.

Call for Support

The Noura Initiative calls on all partners and those interested in women's issues, press freedom, and the rights of persons with disabilities to extend a helping hand and cooperate to reach female journalists with disabilities and those suffering from night blindness.

Your solidarity with us means:

Empowering marginalized voices to continue conveying the truth.

Breaking down barriers that hinder women in the media.

Building a more just and inclusive media.

✦ The Noura Initiative believes that every female journalist, regardless of her circumstances, deserves a fair and supportive environment that enables her to fulfill her mission. This step is the beginning of what we hope will be a brighter and more inclusive path.
