It was March 8, International Women's Day.
We were a group of 15-20 french women, all already involved in climate justice, all speaking up on LinkedIn and all sensitive to feminism. From this group and the idea of Stacy, we put together our strengths to launch a campaign on that day and get attention on subjects that matter : how brands should stop taking this day as a commercial opportunity and so that we actually talk about societal problems and how climate change is so important to tackle as it affects women even more than men.
--
Every year, brands take the opportunity to invite us to consume in the name of a noble cause (discounts for vacuum cleaners and roses die hard, even after Valentine's Day...)
On March 8, there are many battles to be fought for women in the world: the right to abortion which is unfortunately declining in several countries, the right to contraception, the right to education, the right to a safe life. ✊
These are fights for our rights, fights also against daily sexist and sexual violence but also fights which concern the survival of all of humanity: because women are the first affected by climate change in the world. , but are also the first to commit to climate justice and against climate-killing projects.
The statistics don't lie: 80% of people displaced by disasters and climate change around the world are women and girls. (UN)
With the increase in disasters and extreme weather events due to climate change, our gender will be the first victims and it has already started.
💧Climatic disasters mean having to go ever further or even being simply unable to accomplish everyday tasks such as collecting firewood and water.
🏫Climate disasters mean young girls dropping out of school and abandoning their opportunities for emancipation.
Our health. Our safety. Our security. Our education. Our lives.
These are the very real things that climate bombs like EACOP are putting at risk, the TotalEnergies project is coming to fruition and it is these women and girls that we are celebrating today who will be among the first to pay the price.
For this March 8, let's demand inclusive feminism and celebrate women who are committed to social and climate justice ✊
Support for activists who are mobilizing all over the world and thinking of all those who fought for our rights 🤍
We want climate justice, not roses🌹
