This is me, seated with a wireless mic at UNICEF—turning my digital journey into real-world impact
In the middle of preparing for my Advanced Level exams, I made a decision that changed my life. One evening, tired and overwhelmed by textbooks, I came across an online call for youth delegates to attend ICASA 2023, one of Africa’s largest health conferences.
I paused. Could I really do this? I was just a student, after all.
But technology made the impossible feel possible. I applied online, using nothing more than my phone and a heart full of hope. A few weeks later, I received the news: I had been selected.
While others saw me as just another exam candidate, the digital world saw my potential. ICASA became more than a conference—it became my launchpad. I stood in rooms filled with experts, change-makers, and global voices. I listened, I learned, I spoke. For the first time, I wasn’t just dreaming about change—I was part of it.
And it didn’t stop there. That one opportunity led me to become part of UNICEF, contributing to work that uplifts young people across communities. All because I dared to click "apply"—and because technology made that click possible.
This is the power of digital tools. They don’t just connect—they elevate. They opened a door for me, and I walked through it into purpose.
Now, I want to hold that door open for others. I want every young woman out there—studying late at night, wondering if her voice matters—to know this: your voice matters, and the digital world is listening. Use it. Apply. Speak. Share.
The world is waiting for you.
