The children in attendance

Teenage empowerment and camping against rape and domestic violence held in Jos, Plateau State.

The event was held during the holidays to enable children from primary, secondary and few tertairy student to be in attendant.  We started we joked and play to get the attention of the children and young persons.

We had an interactive session educating the children on what Rape is, Domestic violence, why the victims should speak out, reasons why the victims should seek legal redress, what men can do to end domestic Violence. We educated the children on violence in family life or violence in the family between family members, which can be defined as "physical, verbal or emotional abuse by one member of a family to another" is more dangerous to the society. The damage that violence within the family causes has deeper and more indelible damage to the structure of the society itself, and also destroys the individual viticms. The application of Violence within the family by a husband or father or bro who should be showing love, affection and compassion, leaves psychological scars on other members of the family, which may prove difficult to ever erase. We let the children know that women and children are the most likely viticms.

The children where very enlightend and ask heart breaking questions to show that most of them were almost victims. Customary and religious practices make the viticms more vulnerable, without legal or society remedy.
