My message in this 2024 #16DaysOfActivism goes to girls/women who are afraid to speak out and seek help when being abused.
Why do such persons choose not to expose their abusers we keep wondering?
There are different reasons starting from being afraid the abuser will abuse them more, to not having financial power to leave and be on their own, to also not wanting to be segregated by their cultural beliefs and society they live in, and who will take care of their children.
Now, what i tell such persons reading this is- if you continue to stay in such abusive relationships because of any of these factors i mentioned above, one day you might not even be alive to remember if you have your own money, what society will think, who will train your children when you leave the abuser etc.
Not that these factors are unrealistic but you must have to take a firm decision on how to stop being abused. There must be some solutions one way or the other.
If you are depending on your abuser for financial reasons, then you try and get a job or start a small business so you can earn your own money. When you are financially successful, you will not just be afraid to leave abusive relationships, you will be bold to speak out and report your abuser to the necessary authorities.
When you have your own money, you will not be afraid to leave your children behind. You can be bold to take your children and find a house of your own with your own money. You can also manage to feed them and not depending on your abuser.
"Most women do not like to leave abusive relationships mostly due to fear of taking up responsibilities which mostly involves financial means."
First and foremost, find a means to speak out. If people do not know about your problems, how will they help you?
The social media is there to talk about your abusive relationship. Apart from social media, find ways to join women advocates initiatives and their campaigns. They will always give you platforms to share your problems. We have also discovered that most abusive women hardly open up to share their problems so you wouldn't expect women advocates to understand your problems if you refuse to speak up.
Let us keep inspiring the female Gender suffering in silence to always SPEAK OUT when they are being abused.~ Jackie Iwu
