The ARCTIC: Gender issues

Check out this interesting paper on gender issues in remote arctic canada..http://www2.parl.gc.ca/Content/LOP/ResearchPublications/prb0809-e.htm.

An interesting point they make - As Inuit traditional nomadic lifestyle declined with government forced movement into settlements males lost many of their traditional practises (hunting for sustenance etc.) while women were able to maintain many of theirs (housekeeping, raising families etc.). This led to an abrupt gender imbalance and violence against women from the disenfranchised men. Interesting. Would the opposite have happened if women's roles became redundant?
