The Change We Carry

Title: "The Change We Carry"

In the bustling streets of Monrovia, Liberia’s capital, young Aminata wove through the crowds, selling oranges from a basket balanced on her head. At 17, her dreams of education had been cut short. Like many girls in Liberia, she was pulled out of school to help support her family.

But Aminata had always been a fighter. Even as she worked tirelessly, she dreamed of a better life—not just for herself, but for every girl in her community.

A Seed of Change

One afternoon, Aminata overheard women in the market talking about a community empowerment program run by a local nonprofit. The program offered training in business management and literacy for women who wanted to start small enterprises. Though hesitant, Aminata attended one of their sessions.

The workshop opened her eyes. She learned about strong Liberian women like Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the first female president in Africa, who had transformed Liberia after years of civil war. She also heard about ordinary women who had built businesses, educated their daughters, and fought for peace.

Determined to rewrite her own story, Aminata joined the program. She learned to read, write, and manage finances. Armed with these skills, she started her own fruit juice business. Within months, her small venture grew into a thriving enterprise.
