"The Childhood We Lost in Their Fights"

"I thought home was my safe place. I was wrong. The walls I called home echoed with anger, and my childhood disappeared in the shadows of my parents’ fights."

As a child, I thought the arms that hugged me would always protect me.

My parents gave me everything—love, care, comfort. Every wish I had, they tried to fulfill.

I was dressed in warmth, laughter, and abundance. On the surface, it looked perfect.

But in the shadows of their arguments, my childhood disappeared.

I remember the nights trembling under loud voices.

I remember the mornings with a pit in my stomach, fearing what words or anger would come next.

I would hide, silent, trying not to be seen or heard.

Even their love couldn’t erase the fear that lived in my chest.

I would think:

"I am loved… yet why do I feel unsafe in the only place I should be safe?"

The fights, the shouting, the slammed doors. it wasn’t about me, but I carried it in every corner of my small heart.

I was a witness to their anger, a silent participant in a battle I never chose.

Parents, I know you give so much.

You love fiercely. You provide everything we ask for.

But in your moments of anger, we children are left behind.

We forget our laughter, our play, our light.

We live through trauma silently.

Our nights pass in fear. Our mornings begin with unease.

Love and care cannot erase the cracks that fighting leaves in a child’s heart.

You may never know the small, silent moments when we curl up inside ourselves, trying to survive the echoes of your voices.

Please, give us not just things but a safe space to be children.

Give us love without fear.

Give us protection not just from the world but from the battles inside our homes.

Because a childhood stolen in anger cannot be bought back with gifts.

A child who grows up in fear carries that shadow into their future.

But a childhood filled with understanding, warmth, and security creates adults who dream, who love, who give back to the world with hearts unbroken.

Let us break the cycle.

Let us choose care over conflict, understanding over anger, empathy over punishment.

Let us give children a chance to be children so they may grow into women and men capable of change, compassion, and courage.

The small voices of children are powerful.

Listen to us.

Protect us.

And remember: your fights leave marks on hearts far smaller than your own.
