The common hatred of film remakes is utter hypocrisy

“I don't hate watch Disney remakes
But I do intrinsically feel they are creatively bankrupt”
”Yeah, trying to cash in on the fantasy genre only kinda worked like with POTC and those couple Narnia movies. And then Marvel became their big franchise cash cow. Still they need the actual Disney brand to output something. Can't just re-release the old stuff to guarantee a fuck ton of money like old days, they released them all on video and then DVD and then BluRay to cash in, in the 90s and 00s. That Direct-to-DVD sequel concept exhausted itself out. This is the next best thing. Big name actors, big budget effects, some 'creative' casting choices so people will stop calling them racist and to stir up controversy so people pay attention to them.”
”True, it is less risky. But I despise that the decision is motivated by money. I despise that rather than trying to make better art they'd rather do literally anything that would get them slightly more money. I enjoyed Maleficent and even Cruella to an extent because it felt like something new. It wasn't mind-blowingly original or even good in some cases, but I appreciated that they didn't just make a better film worse in every aspect. And that is the lowest bar I can set, yet most of the time they can't even clear that. I do frankly expect more from a company of that size who prides itself on the worlds and characters it creates.“
”And I think that is a worthy thing to criticize
film is a corporate product, but its also an art, and I will criticize it as such”
”The thing is, they aren't standing side by side with their original counterparts, and it's not even close in some cases. And that's fair to say. They aren't made for me, and I get that. They're for a new audience that might be seeing the original for the first time and are just now getting this live action version. So it's cool for them.
I mean, I don't like most of the remakes. But I'm not going to be an asshole about it. Others can like them, and that's fine, but they're not I'm my list of movies I watch all the time like the originals are.”
”They're still extremely pointless cash grabs.”
”That’s been my issue with the live action remakes: most of them just felt like worse versions of the animated films they’re based on.
I think a lot of the issue is that they’re adapting their classic and best-received films. I’d rather see them try adapting messier films like Hunchback of Notre Dame that had room for improvement.“
”Yeah, I understand OP but this post feels like they're just screaming at people for expressing their distaste for Disney's lack of willingness to invest in originality.”
It’s ironic how a bunch of online users think they know more about the companies than the people who work there themselves. Okay, so if you hate them so much, don’t watch them then.
Also they are so desperate to criticize everything that they see as a cash grab and making pointless projects to make money (like isn’t that the purpose of a company).
What’s even more ironic is that they’ll say they “lack originality” as if there are no original content from the companies whatsoever. They just can’t seem to admit they’re too lazy to find something original lol.
They also say that remakes are pointless and are always “worse than the original”. Which is funny since one of the most iconic films of all time The Wizard of Oz from 1939 is a remake from the one from 1915. You might be thinking “that’s an exception, nowadays they do remakes constantly”, but what if I told you that back in the early days of the film industry, there were plenty of remakes?
Let that sink in.
